RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To evaluate the efficacy of standardized medication for patients with chronic rhinosinusitis.@*METHOD@#According to the diagnosis and treatment guidelines on chronic rhinosinusitis formulated in 2008, by means of prospective study, we studied 54 patients suffering from chronic rhinosinusitis treated with standardized medication including, a combination of local intranasaI corticosteroids, macrolides, mucus discharging agent and nasal irrigation treatment and followed up for 3 months. Visual analogue scale (VAS), sino nasal outcome test-20 Chinese version scales (SNOT-20 CV), Lund-Mackay CT and Lund-Kennedy endoscopy methods were employed to conduct the subjective and objective assessment and comprehensively evaluate the clinical efficacy before and after treatment.@*RESULT@#(1) After three months of standardized medication, the patients' total scores of VAS, SNOT-20 CV, CT and endoscopy were improved significantly compared with those before-treatment (P < 0.01 for all these scoring systems). (2) There was statistically significant difference between the clinical efficacies of chronic rhinosinusitis patients with and without nasal polyps groups (P < 0.01). After 3 months of standardized medication, the effective rates of the CRSwNP group evaluated by subjective assessment and CT evaluation were 66.7% and 94.4% respectively, while those of the CRSsNP groups were 91.7% and 97.2% respectively. (3) Betwecn CRSwNP and CRSsNP groups, there was no significant difference in the improvement rate or inefficiency rate in subjective assessment except for the cure rate, while there were significant differences in both cure rate and improvement rate in CT evaluation. (4) The CRS patients' self-testing-based questionnaires results showed positive correlation with objective assessments.@*CONCLUSION@#The standardized medication with combination of intranasal local glucocorticoid, macrolides (14-membered ring), the mucus discharging agent and nasal irrigation on CRS was effective.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the expression and clinical significance of MMP9 and MVD in the carcinogenesis of squamous cell carcinoma of external auditory canal and middle ear.@*METHOD@#Immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of MMP9 and MVD proteins in 26 squamous cell carcinoma tissues of external auditory canal and middle ear and 20 normal external ear canal skin tissues.@*RESULT@#The positive rate of MMP9 in squamous cell carcinoma tissues of external auditory canal and middle ear was 73.1% (19/26) lower than that in the normal external ear canal skin tissues 25.0% (5/20). The positive rates of CD34 were 33.58 +/- 3.04 and 22.50 +/- 5.22, respectively. The positive rates of MMP9 and CD34 were correlated with the histological grade and tumor grade, but had no relationship with age and sex. The positive rates between MMP9 and CD34 were related (r=0.42, P<0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#MMP9 may be involved in the carcinogenesis of squamous cell carcinoma of external auditory canal and middle ear, and may play an important role in the invasion and metastasis of squamous cell carcinoma of external auditory canal and middle ear. MMP9 and CD34 play a cooperative role in the process of squamous cell carcinoma of external auditory canal and middle ear.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE@#To compare the effectiveness of vocal cord cyst excision with electronic laryngoscope (EL) and self-retaining laryngoscope (SRM).@*METHOD@#Nightly-two patients, diagnosed as vocal cord cyst with strobolaryngoscope or electronic laryngoscope, were randomly divided into two groups. One group was 48 cases treated with electronic laryngoscope and another group was 44 cases treated with self-retaining laryngoscope. Electronic laryngoscopy examination and voice function assessments were performed to all patients, preoperatively and postoperatively at one week, three months and six months.@*RESULT@#One failed cases under SRM, difficult exposure of glottic portion, were treated under EL. The recurrence rate of the two groups was of no statistical significance in three months after operation. Voice function assessment of the two groups was of no statistical significance at one week, three months and six months after operation.@*CONCLUSION@#The operation under electronic laryngoscope is a minimal invasive procedure to the laryngeal mucosa. Electronic laryngoscope had advantages such as clear view, accurate operation. Furthermore, it can be used for those that could not be treated under self-retaining laryngoscope.

RESUMEN

Objective To investigate the influence of long-term sound conditioning on the physiology of outer hair cells. Methods Twenty healthy guinea pigs were exposed to a broadband noise for 14 days consecutively at the level 90 dB(A),8 h/day.The DP-gram and input/output(I/O)function(1~8 kHz)were measured at pre-conditioning,fourteen days conditioning, seven days post-conditioning and fourteen days post-conditioning,respectively.Results The results of DP-gram measurements demonstrated that long-term sound conditioning could enhance the DPOAE amplitudes within low frequencies(1~3 kHz,especially 5.0 dB at 2 kHz and 7.5 dB at 3 kHz,P
